Often described as the American Dream, homeownership is what many American families strive for. Achieving financial goals and investing in the future is what the Dream is comprised of, but homeownership means much more than that. It is the foundation, the place we get to call home, raise families, build memories, and become part of a community.
Celebrating homeownership began in the 1920’s. Like many things the celebration has had its fair share of date and name changes. In 2002, President George W. Bush proclaimed June to be National Homeownership Month. Despite the name and date changes and even the fluctuations in the real estate market, the celebration has always remained.
For many Americans owning a home is no easy feat. Many households in the U.S. are cost burdened, paying more than 30% of their incomes for housing. A large percentage of these households are renters and the remainder are those that make less than $30,000 a year. Although there are still low interest rates in the market, which help to keep the monthly mortgage payments down, it’s still doesn’t resolve some of the other challenges homebuyers face. Saving money for a down payment, finding affordable housing inventory, repayment of student loans, and wage growth stand in the way for many Americans trying to purchase a home.
Thankfully there is a large group of people working to help Americans reach the dream and overcome the challenges. The unsung heroes of the housing market – Housing Agencies and Housing Associations. These group of people fight the hard fight by protecting and advocating for programs that assist Americans purchase their homes. At times the insurmountable work done by these groups goes under the radar.
We want to take this time to thank the Housing Agencies for all of their hard work. Without our clients’ creativity and steadfast dedication, the American Dream could not be a reality. We thank you for choosing eHousingPlus as your Program Administrator and allowing us the privilege to play a tiny role in helping families achieve their American Dream.
Over the last 20 years eHousingPlus has worked with the State and Local Housing Agencies pioneering and revolutionizing Program Administration and Compliance Services for Single Family and Homeownership Programs.
